Introducing Paul Modjadji
Two-time world dance champion and recipient of the Mandela Washington Fellowship award through President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative Paul Modjadji is one of South Africa most talented and celebrated dance stars.
Modjadji, an accomplished dancer made history by becoming the first South African to win the Dance Star World Championships, in the solo jazz category, in Croatia in 2011. Following this trailblazing win, in 2013 he was crowned Top Dancer in the world by Talent America Showcase, in New York.
Through his ambassadorship for the International Dance World Cups and the European Star Dance Union, Modjadji has shared his talent and passion for dance and art education across the world.
His accomplishments on the national and international level include choreographing Africa’s first dance film, “Hear Me Move”, the Township Entrepreneurs Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, in 2015 respectively and the South African Year In China Closing Ceremony in Beijing in 2014.
Modjadji is the founder of Non-profit organization “Leaders Who Dare To Dream Foundation” which he founded with the objectives of providing arts education and leadership skills to townships across South Africa. Since the inception of the foundation in 2011, the foundation has reached over 10, 000 beneficiaries and continues in its endeavour to empower the youth through the arts. The Foundation offers free drama, dance, musical theatre and leadership classes. They recently launched the Hammanskraal junior ballet programme, introduced with the objective of teaching the foundation of classical dance in order to prepare young talent from the age of 5, for a successful career in the arts. Modjadji is one of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans you need to know for the year 2014, and listed as one of Destiny Man’s 40 most influential men under 40 for the same year. Modjadji is the official brand ambassador for the City of Tshwane, South Africa capital city.
In 2016, Modjadji was selected as a judge for the Dance World Masters in Croatia, one of only two from the continent. Modjadji will be embarking on a dance for social change Africa tour, visiting 10 countries from August to November 2016.
